Why Study Brain Clearance?

Amyloid is a protein that is regularly produced in the brain and removed or “cleared” as a waste product. Improper clearance of amyloid can lead to a buildup of the protein, which is a suspected factor in the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

We are conducting this study to understand the ways that amyloid protein is cleared from the brain and identify how these clearance mechanisms change over time. A better understanding of amyloid clearance could lead to new methods of Alzheimer’s disease prevention.
